- What should we continue doing?
- What should we abandon?
- What needs to be creatively invented afresh?
TEACHING LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
The Teaching-Learning Environment thus developed factors in the following:
- Recognizing learners as the core participants, encouraging their active engagement, and developing in them an understanding of their own activity as learners (“self-regulation”)
- Being founded on the social nature of learning and actively encouraging group work and well-organised cooperative learning
- Employing learning professionals who are highly attuned to learners’ motivations and the key role played by emotions in achievement
- Being acutely sensitive to individual differences among the learners, including the type and extent of their prior knowledge
- Devising programs that demand hard work and that challenge everyone without excessive overloading them
- Operating with clarity of expectations and using assessment strategies consistent with these expectations, with a strong emphasis on formative feedback to support learning
- Strongly promoting “horizontal connectedness” across areas of knowledge and subjects as well as with the community and the wider world.
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
Vandya International School is partners with the top organizations and educational leaders to conduct regular teacher education and educational leadership workshops for our educators. The organisations also jointly conduct training and upgradation programs for the schools of Northeast in India. The endeavour ensures 20 hrs of specialised and subject-based training from the most well known national and international facilitators from their areas of expertise.
We learn on the ground and from our fellows. As each classroom and each student is different, so are our methods. This makes sharing of best practices a mandate. From Classroom observations to a Best Practices session last Saturday of every month, the Peer Learning Program makes it easy for the entire teaching community to learn and grow.
Exchange of ideas is a powerful medium to initiate thought and subsequent actions. Teachers and educators learn by listening to others and participating in dialogues. The dialogues can, in the least, put up the right questions, and at their best, can start movements. Hence, VIS encourages and sponsors its teachers to travel to various conferences and outreach programs to bring about the right difference and development.
Vandya International School is a partner school with the Aditya Birla Education Academy, which conducts regular teacher education and educational leadership workshops for our educators. The two organisations also jointly conduct training and upgradation programs for the schools of Northeast in India.
