Pastoral @ Vandya
At Vandya’s boarding houses, we pride ourselves on nurturing and grooming our boarders with the utmost tenderness and care. We firmly believe that every student possesses the potential to excel in their chosen field, and our boarding program is designed to provide them with the perfect jumpstart towards achieving their goals. Our primary goal is to transform the young children we receive into fine young adults, and we do so in alignment with the Guru Shishya Parampara, instilling the right virtues, morals, and ethics in our students to prepare them for life beyond the school premises.
Our dedicated boarding houses are staffed by compassionate caregivers who wholeheartedly commit to maintaining the well-being, health, and happiness of every student under their care. We work in close partnership with parents, guided by shared values that prioritize the overall welfare of our students. Each house is led by a Housemaster, supported by Assistant Masters, Dames, and Tutors. Every student has regular one-to-one meetings with their Tutor, who offers guidance on all aspects of their personal and academic development.
Our team’s major role is to develop a close relationship between the boarders, their parents and the academic team so that every child feels that they are in ‘A HOME AWAY FROM HOME’ and a place where bonds are made for life.
There are separate boarding houses for boys and girls. They reside in four boarding houses: Barbet, Malkoha, Minivet and Sunbird. The living facilities are planned to provide a family-like atmosphere to our boarders where they feel safe and secure.
When students arrive at Vandya International School, it can take some time to adjust, let go of the comfort zone of their homes and settle into their new surroundings. We understand the need for extra care and concern during this crucial transition period, which is why we place our young learners in holding house under the personal care of a Housemaster, Assistant master, Dames, and a team of Tutors. This ensures that they receive the attention and support they require as they acclimatize to their new home away from home.
Performing Art
Welcome to ALANKARAN – Igniting Creativity at Vandya
At Vandya, creativity is at the heart of everything we do. Our imaginative and dynamic Co-curricular Programme, lovingly referred to as ALANKARAN, is designed to set the spark of creativity ablaze in every Vandyan. We believe in nurturing their artistic talents and unlocking their potential to the fullest. Our ultimate goal? To inspire a lifelong passion that could pave the way for future vocational or professional skills.
ALANKARAN encompasses a wide spectrum of creative domains, including Drama, Dance, Music, Creative Writing, Sculpting, Art, Design, and Technology. Here, pupils have the unique opportunity to pursue their cultural passions, both as an integral part of the academic curriculum and, perhaps even more importantly, through an incredibly diverse array of annual events. These events provide a platform for students to showcase their learning and talent, encouraging them to shine. Whether they aspire to be actors, singer-songwriters, designers, journalists, film-makers, musicians, authors, poets, singers, or dancers, we passionately support each and every Vandya student in embracing their creative selves.
Research consistently shows that engagement in extracurricular activities enhances a child’s development. It’s not just about artistic expression; it has a positive ripple effect across their academic performance, study habits, and behaviour in the school environment. Through our ALANKARAN program, we aim to foster these holistic benefits and help our students flourish both inside and outside the classroom.
Join us at Vandya, and let your creativity run wild. Discover the beauty and joy that the Artist in you can bring to your life. ALANKARAN is not just a program; it is an invitation to explore your artistic potential and unleash your inner artist.
Our primary school places great importance on the performing arts as an integral part of the curriculum. This encompasses a diverse spectrum of creative expressions, including music, dance, and theatre. Our mission is to nurture the artistic abilities of our students and foster cultural and artistic awareness, celebrating the rich and varied cultural heritage of India.
Music
In the early stages, from Class I to II, students engage in musical expression through singing and playing instruments. They embark on their musical journey with Indian and Western vocal music. As they progress to Classes III to V, they expand their horizons with exposure to both Indian and Western instrumental music, including instruments such as Tabla, Sitar, Harmonium, Xylophone, Congo, Drums, Guitar, and Keyboard. Students delve into the Intricacies of Swar, Alankar, Taal, Bol, Sargam, and various rhythmic patterns.
Dance
In the realm of dance, our younger students in Classes I and II are introduced to the vibrant folk dances of India, immersing themselves in the diverse cultural tapestry of the country. As they move into Classes III to V, students are trained in the elegant classical dances of ‘Kathak’, ‘Bharatnatyam’ and ‘Kshatriyas’, along with folk and contemporary dance forms, enabling them to express themselves through the medium of dance.
Middle school is a stage where students explore drama and music with a deeper understanding. The drama curriculum encourages students to explore emotions, knowledge, and ideas, offering a safe environment for self-expression. It fosters reflection and integrates drama with other academic subjects, enhancing essential life skills.
Music
Our music curriculum for Classes VI to VIII exposes students to the cultural diversity of India through an engaging approach. It instils curiosity about the vast array of musical traditions in the country, encouraging students to explore, analyse and research music. This prepares them for further studies in music and even a potential career in the field, while also instilling a strong sense of values associated with the arts.
Drama
In Classes IX and X, drama and theatre take centre stage. Students delve into the rich history of theatre, from its roots to contemporary manifestations, and even explore global theatrical traditions. The culmination of this journey is the devising and production of a play, a substantial undertaking that broadens students’ awareness and understanding of the world of theatre.
Music
Secondary-level music education delves into the finer details of performance music, exploring various schools and terminology. It encourages students to listen critically, appreciate diverse musical systems, and comprehend the ever-changing nature of Indian and Western music.
At the senior secondary level, students transition into becoming fully-fledged artists with a profound understanding of theatre and music.
Drama
Students at this stage are exposed to a wide range of theatrical forms, both from their immediate cultural surroundings and the broader national and international contexts. They develop a comprehensive skill set, encompassing performing, directing, designing, writing, and production work. Students also have the option to specialize in one or more of these areas, actively participating in various theatre-related activities.
Music
In the Senior Secondary stage, the music curriculum offers students the opportunity to specialize in their areas of interest. In addition to honing their performance skills, they delve into the theory of the performing arts, enhancing their appreciation and understanding of this rich and culturally significant field of knowledge.
At every stage of their education at our school, students are encouraged to explore, create and develop a deep appreciation for the performing arts, fostering not only artistic talent but also a lifelong love for creativity and cultural expression.
